WELCARE
strengthening communities

Help save our environment and raise money by recycling for Welcare.  Orpington Methodist Church is raising funds for Welcare by recycling old mobile phones, inkjet cartridges and laser/toner cartridges.  There is a collection box in the church concourse and your help would be greatly appreciated.  Welcare will receive:

· 50% of the recycling value for any mobile phones
· £1 for each original empty inkjet cartridge
· or up to £5 per empty laser/toner cartridge

Welcare is a Christian charity.  They help parents and carers use their strengths and skills to nurture happy and confident children.
Their services address real needs in the community – offering practical help at times of crisis and supporting families before problems get bigger.

Foodbank
ORPINGTON FOOD BANK

Orpington Foodbank operates from a local shop premises at 6 Ranmore Path, off Tillingbourne Green, and is open on Mondays and Fridays from 10am-2pm.

Foodbank helps when there is a crisis in the family, for example, when benefit is delayed, or when people are suddenly without work and have no money for food.

Foodbank collects food donated by local people, sorts donated food and puts it into packs, gives vouchers to organisations such as Mencap and Social Services - doctors, health visitors, social workers and school support workers - these agencies give the vouchers to those in need.

Foodbank gives the client three days of nutritionally balanced food when the voucher is taken to the foodbank centre.

Foodbank will offer the client a listening ear, a cup of tea or coffee and offer sign posting to help the client with their needs.  It feeds those in greatest need in the surrounding area, expresses the love of God in word and deed and enables churches to mobilise together to alleviate poverty in Orpington and the Crays area.  The Oak Community Church is working in partnership with The Trussell Trust to join with them in their network of over 45 Foodbanks across the country.  With growing unemployment this charitable provision is likely to be in greater demand.

There is a box at Orpington Methodist Church for donations of non perishable foods, and your gifts will be very gratefully received.

Food can be delivered to foodbank on Tuesday or Friday 10am-2pm or contact foodbank and arrange delivery.

FOODBANK NEEDS:

  • Regular gifts of food, in particular long life milk, juice, tinned vegetables, 500 grams bags of sugar and cereal etc
  • Financial gifts to purchase more racking
  • A sponsored phone line to provide a mainline to the centre, internet access and transfer costs from mainline to mobile.      Foodbank is only open two sessions a week.  However the mobile is available during working hours all week
