PENTECOST 2011

Pentecost, the birthday of the church.
The day the Holy Spirit came to Jesus' friends as a huge gust of wind
and appeared as tongues of fire.

Our Pentecost Celebration on 12 June was really amazing!  We had a tremendous response from the families of the uniformed and other church and community groups and it was wonderful to see the church packed full and such a hub of activity as people shared in fellowship in the café-style layout, enjoying the coffee and pastries being served by our young people and completing a Pentecost word search or two before we began our worship together.  The singing was greatly uplifted by the group of musicians who played for us and everyone joined in with enthusiasm for the storytelling of the first Pentecost found in Acts, chapter 2, verses 1-21.

All over the world the Spirit is moving
All over His church the Spirit is moving
Right here in this place the Spirit is moving.
Right here in this place there's a mighty revelation of the glory of the Lord, as the waters cover the sea.

Following our celebration and time of worship in the church came our time to be creative as we dispersed across the church centre for a wide choice of activities for all the family.  In the Hulbert Hall, the Pentecost wood craft pendants, the Pentecost plaques and kites were firm favourites, with the reflective colouring for all ages in the creative area proving popular with families too!  Meanwhile, in the Church Hall, people loved making the braided bracelets and Pentecost headbands.
Also in the Church Hall, people enjoyed the pebble and glass painting activities, together with Pentecost ‘helicopters’, decorating flowers and butterflies and making a windmill.  In fact, there was plenty to keep everyone occupied!
In the concourse, young and old alike coloured a Pentecost headband whilst in the Wesley Room the little children enjoyed making a Pentecost dove.

Very soon it
was time to gather in church again, to share and reflect and pray, a highlight being the cutting of the Pentecost cake, as we celebrated the birthday of the Church when God sent His Holy Spirit on that first day of Pentecost.  People were then able to engage in further fellowship over a cup of coffee and piece of cake before going home with all their crafts and special gift card and memories of an unforgettable morning.
